Help and Advice for taking part in Android Tests.

Please find below our most commonly asked questions around Android testing.

I've taken part in a previous test, do I need to uninstall/reinstall the recorder?

  • If you already have the app on your device, we would recommend players to uninstall/reinstall, particularly on Android devices. This is to prevent technical issues and to allow players to participate in the correct test.

The title of the playtest is different to what I was expecting!

  • If you had the Go Testify recorder installed previously, it will open the last test you participated in.

  • To resolve this, we recommend uninstalling Contribute. Uninstalling apps can vary on devices, Go to Settings - Tap on Storage and then tap Apps, within the apps section you should be able to remove Contribute.

  • Alternatively on your main screen, hold down on Contribute until you are able to move the icon, move it to the Uninstall option on your home screen.

  • If neither of these methods work, we would recommending searching 'how to uninstall apps' be sure to include the model of your phone. You can also reach out to us to help.

  • After uninstalling, go back to the invitation link and follow the steps displayed, please ensure you click the "Launch Test" button from your browser (After following the invitation link).

I can't install the Go Testify Android Recorder!

  • Make sure you have allowed 3rd party apps to install (most devices should be automatically prompt you on how to do this)

  • Check your antivirus isn't blocking the installation and select 'allow' if prompted via your antivirus.

  • Check you have space on your Android device to install the game you are testing.

I can't install the game to take part!

  • Check you have space on your Android device to install the game you are testing; you should be able to check your Storage in Settings.

My Android says the Contribute app is a virus?!

  • As we update our app frequently, false positives can appear in some antivirus software.

  • We can assure you that there are no Viruses, malware or other malicious software in any of our apps.

  • It is entirely your choice if you wish to install our apps, but you will not be able to participate in playtests without doing so.

How do I know if there is any issues while I am recording?

  • Contribute will now force itself to display on Android if there's a problem, with your connection or audio; this is to ensure the best quality for your playtest session.

When I am recording, does Contribute only see the game? or does it see everything on the screen? Such as: emails, texts and pop up's notifications etc.

  • Contribute cannot determine the difference between the game you are playtesting and other apps; it records the whole screen until you either Pause or Finish the session.

  • We strongly advise players to please place your mobile device into 'Do Not Disturb mode' within your settings. This should stop pop-up notifications from other apps and also helps to protect your privacy!

If I close the Testify Recorder on my device when I have a paused session, will my session be lost?

  • No, all you need to do is open the recorder again and it should allow you to continue and pick up where you left off.

The game is running really slowly/crashing?

  • Please make sure your device meets the minimum requirements; these requirements will be specified in the playtest survey.

  • Please also remember you will likely be playing early/unoptimized builds as part of the test. As a result they may have bugs and other issues.

I'm a User Interviews participant; I can't find the participation link!

  • Check your emails; you should have an email about your approval to participate with a button, Complete the Task. (See Image below)

  • Open your email on the device you want to take part with, then click this button.

  • This will open a tab in your internet browser to take you through the set-up and invitation process.
